You might want to head on over to Wim’s blog and read his post on the effectiveness of MMA for the street. The video is so good that I decided to collect it with Vodpod and post it here. After spending the last year in MMA-enhanced self-defense the video strikes home for me on several fronts.
Man I wish the Army had better hand-to-hand when I went through basic training. What we were taught was basic boxing strikes and a few hip throws.
After watching the video I could not help but think of a quote from Rory Miller’s book:
“There is some overlap in skills; some lessons transfer. But a black belt in Judo will teach you as much about a sudden assault as being mugged will teach you about Judo. And my experience will always be your word of mouth.”
